Horn Daggers

• Dated: 19th century
• Place of Origin: India
• Measurements: Largest length: 15in (382mm). Smallest length: 11.25in (286mm)

Two unusual 19th Century Indian horn ‘daggers’, probably from one of the tribes from North Eastern India or South India; or used by Fakirs. A Fakir is a Muslim Sufi ascetic; but the term is also used to describe Hindu and Buddhist holy men, Sadhus, Gurus, Swamis and Yogis.

These type of daggers are more commonly are known to use Madu’s (shield with animal horn spikes) and Fakir’s horns (normally black-buck horns arranged in a hand weapon combination). The small example has a pleasing shape and form, with a nice grain structure to the horn. Rare and interesting objects.

Both made of probably Buffalo or Cow horn, and decorated with circular patterns, with recurved bichawa shaped ‘blades’. The large example is an impressive item, with an old repair/imperfection in the horn on the hilt.
